Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center

Emergency Operations Center is a civilian command facility in Virginia is used as a center of operations for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Also known as the "High Point Special Facility" (HPSF), the preferred term since 1991 is "SF".
This facility is a large relocation sites for the highest-level civilian and military officials in cases of national disasters, play an important role in the continuity of U.S. government (as of Continuity of Operations Plan).


Mount Weather is the location of a control station for the FEMA National Radio System (FNARS), a high frequency radio system that connects most of the federal public safety agencies and U.S. military with most of the countries  FNARS possible. president to access the Emergency Alert System.

Site brought into the public eye by The Washington Post, when government facilities mentioned when reporting an accident on December 1, 1974 to Mount Weather TWA Flight 514 Boeing 727 jets.


Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, access to the center of operations is available through the Virginia State Route 601 (also called the Blueridge Mountain Road) in Bluemont, Virginia. This facility is located near Berryville, 48 miles (77 km) from Washington, DC  The underground facility at Mount Weather, designated "Area B", was completed in 1959. FEMA established a training facility in surface mount ("Area A ") in 1979.
