In 1996 28% of people who lived in the park full-time fishermen. There are also thousands more who fish part-time and among them is estimated that they catch 5616 tonnes of reef and pelagic fish in that year. Reef fish such as grouper, snapper, and thick lips baronang comprised 57% of the total weight of this catch. Activities that put pressure on the reef's most traditional fishermen in addition to gleaning (collecting animals reef-flat by prying and overturning coral on the reef flat at low tide), coral mining, and occasionally illegal bomb and cyanide fishing.

This all means that the fishery in the Park is working to their maximum potential and any increase in take can cause severe degradation of eco-system.
